Recruitment Speed VS Recruitment Process

I was thinking, people do not like fast food because there are an abundance of fast food restaurants, there are many fast food restaurants because people love fast food.  Someone once said, the way you do something is the way you do everything, whilst some may not agree, there is a truth behind that.

My point is, in today’s world, we want things yesterday and now, this is a character trait that has been carried over in recruitment. There is nothing wrong with urgency and quick turnaround, this is what we want and promote but process pays dividends.

Process is defined as a series of actions or steps taken in order to achieve a particular end. Thorough process will reduce the risk of bad hiring.

A company was recruiting for a sales/account manager position/s. Working with 6 recruiters, their process was [CV sent – 2 interviews -offer]. There are many problems with this, I’ll list 4 obvious ones.

  1. Every recruiter has 17% chance of filling the role so if they are wise, they certainly won’t put all their efforts into this.
  2. It’s impossible to brief 6 companies to the level they need to be to represent your brand well.
  3. This is positioning to receive quantity CV’s hoping one of them is good enough.
  4. If a decision is made, it will be dependent upon [good interview + client’s gut feel] = offer.

in today’s world, we want things yesterday and now, this is a character trait that has been carried over in recruitment. There is nothing wrong with urgency and quick turnaround, this is what we want and promote but process pays dividends

I can tell you that the same company is always recruiting for the same roles, it’s a revolving door. Well that’s the bad news, next time I will share the good news and a real example of how clear process has helped a company achieve unbelievable results in your sector.
